About keepasspc.com — an independent KeePass guide

keepasspc.com is an independent guide to downloading, verifying and using KeePass on Windows. It is not the official KeePass website, it is not run by the KeePass project, and it hosts no software. This page explains who runs it, how we check what we publish, and how it is paid for — so you can decide how much to trust it before you follow a single link.

This is not the official KeePass website

The official KeePass website is keepass.info, run by KeePass author Dominik Reichl. KeePass is his trademark. keepasspc.com is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by him or the KeePass project, and we do not speak for either.

Three commitments follow from that, and they are not negotiable:

If you arrived here looking for the official site, go to keepass.info. Nothing on this page is trying to keep you.

Why this site exists

KeePass is excellent software, documented for people who already understand it. Someone who has just been told to "use a password manager" searches for how to download KeePass on Windows 11 and lands on pages that assume a great deal — or, worse, on one of the fake KeePass lookalike sites that periodically buy search ads and serve trojanised installers. This site is the plain-English middle: what to download, how to check that what you downloaded is genuine, and how to use it, with the official source one click away on every page.

How we verify what we publish

The file sizes, SHA-256 checksums and portable-build inventory on this site are measured first-hand — none of them are copied from anywhere. The protocol, repeated on every KeePass release:

  1. Download both official files (installer and portable ZIP) from the SourceForge project.
  2. Record the exact byte size of each, and compute SHA-256 with sha256sum.
  3. Unpack the portable ZIP and record the extracted footprint and full file inventory.
  4. Cross-check the hashes against the author's own integrity page before publishing.
  5. Update every page that carries a measured number, with the measurement date shown.

The current figures are for KeePass 2.61.1, measured on 2026-07-09. If a number on this site is ever wrong we would rather hear about it than have it stand — the contact address below is read.

Who writes this site

keepasspc.com is written and maintained by Jack Turner for the keepasspc.com Team. Every article carries a visible byline and a last-updated date, and nothing is published under a house pseudonym or generated and left unchecked. There is no editorial board and no guest posting: one person writes it, and the same person is answerable for it at contact@keepasspc.com.

How this site is funded

It is not monetised. There is no advertising, no affiliate programme, no sponsored content, no newsletter capture and nothing for sale. The outbound links to SourceForge and keepass.info carry no affiliate tags and no tracking parameters — the URL in your status bar is the whole URL. Hosting is paid for privately. If that ever changes, this section will say so before the change ships, not after.

Privacy and security posture

This site sets no cookies, runs no JavaScript, and loads nothing from any other domain — no third-party fonts, scripts, pixels or embeds. Our server keeps aggregate page-view tallies only, with no per-visitor records and no stored IP addresses; the privacy page describes exactly what is counted and what is not.

Every response is served over HTTPS with HSTS, a strict Content-Security-Policy, X-Content-Type-Options: nosniff and X-Frame-Options: DENY. There is no login, no user-uploaded content, no comment system and no form anywhere on this site, so there is nothing here to submit data to.

Contact and reporting a problem

Corrections, questions and complaints: contact@keepasspc.com. Security reports are welcome at the same address, also published at /.well-known/security.txt.

If you are reviewing this domain on behalf of a browser, search engine, security vendor or the KeePass project itself: the address above reaches the site operator directly, and we will answer. This site serves no executable content and hosts no files other than its own pages, fonts and icons; the download buttons are static links to sourceforge.net, which you can confirm in the page source of any page here.
